I'm a 20 years plus pen & paper Role Player. I love it so much, that my job is illustrating for Role Playing books (check out my website in my sig). I have a sense of how tricky this role playing thang is. It is hard to define what goes on in the social face to face shared storytelling space.

... and I like the PvE storyline. It ain't anything new, but I was surprised here and there. It strung the missions in a reasonable and logical fashion. My only complaint (and this is a small one) is that everyone is telepathic in the cut scenes. Yeah, yeah, moving mouths would have been difficult probably. And that is okay.

But I think the first cut scene with Gwen looking up the sky is pretty damn good visual storytelling.

I haven't done PvP yet, I'm moving 4 characters up through the PvE storyline at the same time. Which is time consuming and a whole lot of fun. My monk is the furthest along.

So I'm not sure if I know what I'm talkign about... but it seems to me that the only reason for Guilds to exist after Post-Ascension is to team up to do Grinds... which is nice to be sure... or to fight other Guilds.

I would love to see OTHER things that Guilds could do. But I'm not sure how they could be implemented or how tough/easy these ideas could be. But how about Garnering Votes to Tax merchant vendors in order to gain enuff funds to build new cities? Each Guild gets 1 vote, each 1 vote from each guild would be decided in a decent framework by votes among the Guild members. A little debate area instead of an arena should be there.

Or the idea of some Quests being of negotiation, not fighting. Get Bandit King Hooziwhatsit to stop raiding travel route. In order to do that, Bandit King Hooziwhatsit must get 20 Guilds to send him X monies or something. Then you would have to run around and negotiate with other guilds to fork over some monie in lieu of compensations.... geez sounds like the senate. Maybe that is TOO political and TOO contentious. I dunno... just tossing out some ideas on how to get Guilds to do things as entities besides fight each other.

Tbh, i dont see the problem of putting some extra items in.

If the team could invent some kind of near impossible quest, and the reward would be a great item, i think it would be fun.

Howdy ho!

I love games with strong storylines. There are 1P games out there which have storylines better than 90% of hollywood movies (wich is quite easy actually). Names? Fallout. Baldurs Gate. Vampire. Final fantasy.Deus ex. Guild Wars has a storyline which in addition with great artwork would make quite decent playing experience. But there's something something that completly destroys the atmosphere in this game:

THE PLAYERS

In towns you get naked ranger Darth Bobo dancing in front of a necromant Miss BiteMe (i've even seen Barbara Bush few days ago...) screaming "LFG no n00bs". You get the idea. When you join PUG you get a bunch in which 95% of players just want to rush through to go further as fast as possible cursing you to 7th hell for not willing to skip the cinematics. Thank you drive through.

The other thing is that all the mmorpgs are to me complete dissapointment at the moment. And there are such unbelivable possibilities for an online game. Make guilds have one Chief and X Champions, giving them special abilities/privilages. the rest would be grunts. wanna be a champion? prove yourself worthy to the chief/defeat one of the current champions. Let guilds fight for resources/land/fame. some guilds will be crushed. some will make alliances to survive. Let the players be thieves. if caught issue a reward. make players to be enforcers and chase the thieves.

my point is: provide a flexible framework for the players to operate in, and the people will create great content by themselves. the best adventures i had in neverwinter were created by the community (penultima anyone :-) )optionally ban Darth Bobo and Barbara Bush.

Guild Wars is an online Baldurs Gate with weaker storyline. If you'll avoid people/play with your friends you can gest some fun though.

cheers

$50 for Guild War, 2 weeks played and have make it to 16 with 3 chars (I'm leveling 3 builds at once), still addicted to the game like it was CRACK, and I haven’t even tried PvP yet which will probably entertain me for another month or so. The value of this game is 10 out of 10 as far as money spent/amount of enjoyment.
Bingo. Well said.

It's a great game no doubt, but it could be fleshed out more, some really really difficult areas, rare skills [not capturing shit, actually getting skills from NPCs for doing an extremely difficult task, or even skill runes where you find a rune and it gives you the skill]. Maybe some more armour, but the main point is, I'm getting my money's worth, I won't play forever, but I'll play it plenty long enough to get my money's worth. And then there'll be chapter 2...

what im trying to say is, i feel like there isnt much to play for anymore and not much to look forward too. its a great game and alot of fun, but a lil on the shallow side, what do you guys think about these parts of GW?
I've never been one to care about the equipment that I have. So this game works for me in that respect. One negative aspect to what you are talking about is the real world ebay trade that goes along with it.

I think the RP aspect of the game also can change dramatically when you find a good group of people who want to explore and roleplay together. I haven't PvP'd yet and probably wont until I get all 4 of my characters through the game. (I have this problem switching characters =) ) Anyways I find the roleplaying experience to be better than most MMORPG's as long as you are with a suitable and fun group

My 2 cents....

Tanik and anybody else who thinks the game will get dull soon, go to this thread. New areas will always be added through the live streaming updates. there will always be something to do every time you log on. New expansions will be released, offering more and more things to do in PvE. This game does have an emphasis on PvP, but it offers a lot in PvE as well. What level are you Tanik? if you are not level 20, there is a lot more content you are missing once you reach ascension.
